By following the traditional Chinese heritage of ‘Honouring and Respecting the Senior of the Family’, our foundation has adopted the Confucian precept of “Love, serve and respect our neighbour’s elders as our own”.
Our Elders are honoured and respected as family in caring and loving communities.
Founded in 1980, Australian Nursing Home Foundation (ANHF) is one of the largest Chinese aged care organisations in Australia.
ANHF is an independent charitable organisation and was formed “to establish a charity founded and endowed for the purpose of taking care of the sick, elderly and needy people of the Australian Chinese community”. The vision was to help support and care for the seniors of Chinese background who had no close relatives in Australian or had lost contact with relatives overseas and were becoming increasingly socially isolated.
By following the traditional Chinese heritage of “Honouring and Respecting the Senior of the Family’, the organisation adopts the Confucian precept of “Love, serve and respect our neighbour’s elders as our own”.
During the early years of its inception, ANHF relied heavily on the founding Trustees to secure adequate funds to secure its first aged care home. Their unfailing dedication and effectiveness of promotion, lobbying and fund-raising for more than 2 years resulted in The Montrose Nursing Home – the first ethno-specific aged care facility for seniors of Chinese background in Australia.
From those humble beginnings of one small nursing home, the Foundation has continued its 35 year tradition of providing high quality aged care to meet the changing needs of the ageing community. There is a growing need to provide client-centred services in an environment where people of Chinese and South East Asia backgrounds are not isolated socially and culturally due to language barriers or their ability to communicate their needs.
ANHF recognises the importance to deliver the best possible standard of culturally and linguistically aged care services to its recipients. Its expertise in its field is reflected by the strong support it receives from the Chinese Australian community as ANHF upholds the health and wellbeing of people from Chinese background.
